Dr. Jart Water Drop review

Dr. Jart Water Drop review

With Spring in the air my thoughts turn from heavier moisturizers of winter to lighter moisturizers of spring/summer.  Dr. Jart delivers big time with Water Drop.

I know it’s popular with the dewy skin trend to put a drop of argan oil in your foundation or use some moisturizer with oil under your makeup but I just can’t do it.  Logic says to me makeup is removed with oil why on earth would I want to put oil under or in my foundation.  That’s just crazy talk. Sure you look really good for about an hour but then your face starts to melt off.

Water Drop is perfect under makeup moisturizer.  It feels like velvet on your fingers and skin.  Not too heavy.  Use sparingly as you can always add more.  It’s like salt when cooking.  You can always add more but forget trying to take it out if you add too much.  Next thing you know you’re tissuing off good cream or awkwardly rubbing your forearm on your face as your husband walks in the room then slowly backs out….. not that that’s happened to me.

My foundation stays better when I use this versus other moisturizers.  I don’t have to use as much powder to help the makeup stay on my face.  My mascara doesn’t mysteriously migrate to my under eye.  Mascara is removed with oil as well so somehow the small amount of oil in the foundation or moisturizer under your eye is like some kind of mascara magnet.  Water Drop helps prevent that.

It is similar to Amarte Aqua Veil, a Korean product if you are familiar with that.  But Water Drop is much less expensive.  It doesn’t seem to have the botanicals as Aqua Veil does but I am really looking for all that fancy pants stuff in my nighttime moisturizer.  A girl can only afford to go fancy for so many hours of the day.  Since skin regenerates at night that gets me the most bang for my buck.

There is no SPF in Water Drop so you need to be getting that from the foundation or a powder or setting spray.  Somewhere else.  For me, lack of SPF is another reason this is a winner for under makeup vs a normal day cream.  Odds are you are putting sunscreen on in some form from the makeup.  You only need so much SPF.  Two layers of SPF 30 is still SPF 30 NOT SPF 60.  They don’t add up.  Protect that lovely skin!

What is your favorite under foundation moisturizer?  I know primers are wonderful but before primer goes on that what moisturizer do you use?  If you use one at all.  How many people just prime before makeup and don’t moisturize?
