Butter Elixir face oil review

Butter Elixir
Butter me up

After hearing so many wonderful things on the Interwebs about this seemingly magical Butter Elixir I just had to try it myself.  I ordered a few things from the manufacturer.  They have a premade bundle to try the 3 common products.  The Butter Elixir lip balm, body oil, and face oil.  The box arrived a few weeks ago and I was excited to try it until I smelled the body oil.  I immediately put it all away and moved on with my life.  Oh goodness, the smell was horrible.  The body oil is lavender scented.  We all know at this point how much I hate the smell of lavender.  I never even opened the face oil fearing it too would have the same terrible smell.

Yesterday before going out to brunch I decided I had to try it.  Not sure what came over me.  I dug out the bottle of face oil and put some on my face.  It smelled fine.  Barely smelled like roses at all.  Thankfully the Butter Elixir face oil has nothing to do with lavender.  The product absorbed quickly and didn’t leave me shiny.  I really liked it.  I don’t know that it was any better than the Josie Maran Argan oil for face.  The only difference was the rate of absorption.  I left the house after a few mins doing nothing else to my face, and it looked healthy.  Not oily or too dewy.

That said, the dropper to dispense the oil absolutely sucks.  I have used many many many different face oils and serums that use eye dropper dispensers.  Never have I ever lost so much product to drips.  I use a shitake mushroom extract bottle 2 times every day with a better dropper dispenser.  I am sorry but for $48 an ounce, I expect more.

Not sure the oil is functionally much different at first blush from Tarte Maracuja oil or Josie Maran Argan oil.  Both very popular.  I would use any of these 3 items.  Just giving an edge to Butter Elixir if you are going about your day with no makeup.  The 2 other oils are great at night before bed.  They don’t absorb as fast as the Butter Elixir.  All are fantastic if your skin is as dry as my skin.  It just comes down to price.  Butter Elixir face is more expensive.  It feels overpriced.  The Tarte Marajuca oil is $48 for 1.7 oz and the Butter Elixir is $48 for 1.0 oz.  Josie Maran is also $48 for 1.7 oz. It’s almost twice the price for some rosehip and apricot oil mixed in with the Argan.

Maybe tonight I will bring myself to use the body/hair oil.  Lavender is supposed to help you sleep.  I will also update after prolonged use of Butter Elixir.  Just in case it is worth the extra price tag with long term use.

What is your favorite face oil?
